House rules

These rules are the terms of using Smalltalk.Ninja — you accept them when you create an account, and an account can be disabled for breaking them. Version 2026-07-30, in effect since 30 July 2026.

Courtesy between chatting parties

• Open like a person. A greeting someone can actually answer beats a bare "hi" sent to twenty people.
• Let them reply. Silence is an answer. You can be waiting on 5 people at once; past that, starting with somebody new waits until one of them writes back. Conversations you're already in are never held up. Messages are also paced a few seconds apart, so nobody can be flooded.
• Take no for an answer the first time. If someone stops replying, closes the conversation, or asks you to stop — that's the end of it.
• Ask before pictures. Never send explicit or shocking images unasked. Pictures arrive blurred for a reason; don't treat someone unblurring one as consent for more.
• Don't dig for identities. Real names, town, workplace, socials, phone numbers — don't push for them, and think twice before giving your own. Staying unidentifiable is the whole point of this site.
• What's said in a chat stays in it. Don't republish someone's messages or pictures anywhere, here or off-site.
• One person, however many personas. Switching persona to get around a block, or to restart a conversation someone ended, is harassment and is treated as such.
• Civility isn't optional. No slurs, no hate, no threats, no pile-ons, no sexual or abusive messages aimed at someone who didn't invite them.
• If you think you're talking to a minor, stop and report it. This site is 18 and over, but a stated age proves nothing. Don't wait to be sure, and never rely on "they said they were older" — it is not a defence here or anywhere else.
• No spam. No advertising, link drops, recruiting, mass-identical openers, or steering people to another platform.

Strictly prohibited

Illegal activity and illegal content are prohibited outright — in messages, pictures, nicknames, and profile text alike. Anonymity is not a defence, and "it was a joke" is not one either.

• Anything sexual involving a minor, in any form — photographic, drawn, written, or implied — and any sexual approach to someone under 18. This is the one line with no warning, no strike count, and no second chance.
• Being here at all if you are under 18, or helping someone under 18 get an account. Any account found to belong to a minor is disabled and deleted.
• Naming yourself as a child, or as someone who wants one. Nicknames that state an age under 18, present their owner as a child, or use the shorthand people use for a sexual interest in children are refused when they are chosen — in any language, however they are spelled. A name is the first thing anyone here sees, and neither of those is going to sit on the roster while someone gets round to it.
• Intimate images of anyone who didn't agree to be shown, including so-called revenge porn, hidden-camera material, and anything you didn't have permission to share.
• Threats, violence, and incitement — threatening harm, encouraging suicide or self-harm, terrorism, or organising violence against anyone.
• Doxxing — publishing or trading someone's real identity, address, workplace, or other private details, here or elsewhere.
• Trade in illegal goods and services — drugs, weapons, stolen data or accounts, counterfeits, forged documents, sexual services, or human trafficking of any kind.
• Fraud and malware — scams, phishing, blackmail or sextortion, malicious links, and attempts to break into this site or anyone's account.
• Content you have no right to publish, including material that infringes someone else's copyright.

Nobody here is staff unless they carry the badge

A name is the only thing you know about a stranger here, which makes "I'm from support" the cheapest lie on the site. So it is not left to your judgement:

• Admins carry a badge beside their name — in the online list, at the top of a conversation, and above every message they send. It comes from the account's role on the server. Nobody can put it on a profile, and there is no setting for it.
• Nobody else may be named like staff. Nicknames suggesting admin, moderator, support or an official account are refused when they are chosen, spelled sideways or not.
• An admin will never ask you for an access code. Not to verify you, not to fix anything, not ever. Anyone who does is stealing your account, badge or no badge.

What happens when a rule is broken

• Block ends it on your side immediately — that person can no longer message you. You can also block just their pictures and keep talking.
• Report sends the conversation to an admin for review. You are asked what is wrong, from a short list; adding anything else is optional. Reports are seen only by admins.
• Report a picture withholds it from everyone the moment you report it, and only an admin can put it back or destroy it.
• You are told what we decided. Every report is either upheld or turned down by a person, and the answer appears in your notifications. We don't say what happened to the other account — that is between them and us.
• If something of yours is acted on, you are told why. Not who complained, and never a hint of it — but what was done and on what ground, in the admin's own words.
• Report as spam counts a strike against the sender's account, not their persona — switching persona sheds nothing. Strikes from 3 separate accounts within 7 days disable the account automatically. One strike per reporting account, so nobody can stack them alone.
• A new nickname sheds nothing either. Every name a persona has gone by stays listed on its profile, where anyone it chats with can see it — so a rename changes what you are called and not who you are. Changing it also locks the nickname for 1 day.
• Admins can disable an account outright for anything on the prohibited list, without waiting for strikes to accumulate.
• A disabled account can do exactly one thing: write an appeal explaining itself. An admin reads it and either reinstates the account or lets it stand. Unreinstated accounts are deleted after 90 days.

Where software is involved

Three things here are automatic, and you should know exactly what they are.

• A word filter checks messages as they are sent against a short list an admin maintains. A match refuses the message and can block or report the sender automatically. It matches text, keeps nothing, and is the only automatic thing that ever touches a message on its way through.
• Reports are sorted by a language model running on our own hardware. When you report someone, it reads that conversation, guesses how urgent it looks, and writes a short summary so an admin knows what to read first. It decides nothing — every report is read and acted on by a person.
• A new nickname is checked — against a list of reserved words first, and then, if it got past that, shown to the same model with two questions: is this name pretending to be staff, and does it present a child or advertise an interest in one? Only the name is sent, nothing else. It is the one thing on this site a model can decide by itself, and all it can decide is that you pick a different name — it cannot report you, and it never sees anything but the name. If it is wrong about yours, choose another; there is nothing to appeal because nothing has happened to your account.
• Nothing reads conversations that were not reported. There is no scanning of messages in general, and no software here is able to do it — the part that talks to the model can only be handed a conversation someone has complained about. Your messages are not sent anywhere outside this server, ever.

What a report keeps, and for how long

This is the one place where something outlives the usual deletion, so it is worth being plain about.

• Reporting takes a copy. The tail of the reported conversation — and the picture, if it was a picture — is copied into an area only admins can reach, at the moment you report it.
• Because otherwise there would be nothing left to look at. Conversations here are deleted on schedule whether or not anyone has got to the complaint about them, and an admin cannot rule on something they can no longer see.
• It is only ever what someone complained about. Nothing is copied there unless a report was filed, which is what makes that area's contents exactly the material somebody objected to and nothing else.
• It has its own deadline. A copy is deleted once the report has been settled for long enough — see the privacy notice for the period. A complaint nobody has read yet is not deleted, because deleting it would decide it.
• Deleting your account deletes all of it — every complaint either side of it, and every copy taken along the way.

If someone is in danger

We hold no names, no email addresses, and no IP addresses — so we cannot find anyone or call for help on your behalf. If someone appears to be in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. Report it here as well, so the account can be dealt with.

What we are and aren't answerable for

The site is run as well as we can manage and moderated by hand. What that does and does not promise you:

• The service is provided as it stands. It can be slow, unavailable, or closed down; a message can fail to send or arrive. Conversations are deleted on schedule and a deleted one cannot be brought back, so nothing here is a place to keep anything you would mind losing.
• What members write is theirs, not ours. Nothing reads a conversation that was not reported, so what somebody sends you has been neither checked nor endorsed by us. We act on what is reported to us; we don't vouch for anyone.
• Everyone here is a stranger, and nothing about them is verified. Age, gender, place, intentions — all self-declared, on this site by design. What you choose to share, believe, or act on is your own decision, and meeting someone from here is at your own risk.
• Nothing here is for sale. VIP and VIP+ are not sold; a tier is granted by a code an admin hands out, and no money changes hands. What a tier includes can change as the site does, and a code buys you nothing to be refunded.
• The most we owe you. As far as the law allows: nothing for indirect or knock-on loss, lost profit, lost custom, lost data, or wasted time; nothing for what another member says or does to you; and nothing beyond what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which for free use of the site is nothing at all.
• We are not a safety service, and telling us is not telling the authorities. If you feel threatened, believe a crime has been committed, or think anyone is in danger, the police are who to contact — they can act on a person, where all we can do is act on an account. Every report here is answered by a person, as set out above, but that is housekeeping after the event: neither doing it, nor how quickly we do it, nor failing to, makes us answerable for what somebody else does to you. Nothing on this site is a promise that we are watching, or that we can keep you safe.
• What none of this takes away. None of it limits liability the law does not allow us to limit — our own intent or gross negligence, and any protection the law where you live gives you that cannot be signed away. Where those apply they come first, and a term that tried to exclude them would simply be void and take the rest of this section with it.
• Come to us first, and let's not go to court. If you have a complaint, write to the address on the contact page and allow 30 days for an answer; almost everything ends there. If it doesn't, we will both attempt mediation or arbitration in Denmark before either of us starts a case. As a consumer you can also take it to the Danish consumer complaint board instead, and nothing here obliges you to arbitrate a dispute you have not yet had.
• Danish law, and where a case belongs. The site is run from Denmark, these rules are governed by Danish law, and Denmark is the one place we answer for it. If you are a consumer, that choice of law cannot cost you the mandatory protections of the law where you live, and you keep the right to bring a claim either there or here in Denmark. We will only ever bring one against you where you live.
