Nobody has to be online to be written to. The message sits in their list until they come back, exactly like the ones you find waiting for you.
No checking in to catch someone
You are not refreshing a list hoping a name reappears. Switch notifications on and the site tells you when somebody has answered.
Your conversations stay put
Close the tab, come back with your access code, and everything is where you left it — the thread, the pictures, your notes and the unread count.

Star the conversations worth coming back to and they sort above the rest, so the people you actually want to talk to do not sink.

There is no roulette and no next button. Every conversation here begins because one of you decided on the other — and only the first of these four needs the other person to be online.
Who is here now
A live list of everyone online, with what they are up for and the languages they speak. Past a hundred people it folds into countries so it stays readable.

Search on what you want out of a conversation — subject, language, gender, country, an age range — rather than scrolling until somebody looks right.
By name
If a friend told you what they are called here, write to them directly. They do not have to be online; the message waits.

Every picture lands covered and stays covered until you tap it. What happens after that is a set of decisions you make, per person.

There is no directory of rooms for a stranger to walk into. Somebody asks you in, or nobody does.

Invite a friend without an account
One link, one conversation
Send a friend a link and they are talking to you in a browser — no sign-up, no app, nothing to fill in. They get your conversation and the games, and nothing else on the site.
And it cleans up after itself
When they leave, the guest account goes with them. If they would rather stay, they can turn it into a real account without losing what you were saying.
Language
Talk to somebody you have no language in common with
Their language and yours do not have to be the same one. All of this is VIP+, and none of it happens unless you switch it on.

One switch in the message box. You write in your language and it arrives in theirs; what they send back arrives in yours. Your own words are always a tap away, and the switch is off until you reach for it.

The whole site, not a smaller one
It runs in the browser you already have — nothing to get from an app store. Add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
Turn notifications on
Do this on your first visit. Replies here often arrive an hour or a day later. With notifications on you hear about it; without them you find it whenever you next look.

On an iPhone or iPad, one step first
Apple sends nothing to a site sitting in a browser tab. Put Smalltalk Ninja on your home screen and notifications become available:
- Tap Share in Safari's toolbar.
- Choose Add to Home Screen.
- Open it from there, and turn notifications on.
Then replies reach you with the site closed.

What is kept and for how long, what happens if a code of yours gets out, and who is turned away before they reach you.
The promise, in detail
Anonymous means anonymous.
Signing up asks for one thing: a nickname you make up. Gender, age, country and languages are all optional and all changeable. Nothing else is asked and nothing is gathered afterwards — an access code is the whole account, so there is no identity behind it to leak or sell.
Nobody reads what you write
- Nothing you write is scanned or profiled
- A moderator only ever sees an exchange somebody reported
- Your IP address stops abuse and is never written down
- No fonts, scripts or assets fetched from anybody else
Encrypted where it is stored
- Every picture encrypted at rest, each under its own key
- Messages next — encrypting them in the database is work in progress
- Uploads re-encoded on the way in; the original, camera data and all, is thrown away
Nothing kept for long
- Messages and their pictures deleted after 60 days, for everybody
- A conversation you keep up stays alive — what goes is the backlog
- Persona pictures and your private album are yours, and stay
One stolen code cannot cost you the account
You get three access codes. Any one of them signs you in. The three acts that destroy something — replacing the set, deleting the account, erasing a persona — each take two of them together, so a stolen code cannot lock you out and cannot empty the account one persona at a time.
While it is live, whoever holds it reads what you read and writes as you, and can delete conversations. What they cannot do is make it permanent: replacing your codes cuts them off.
Nobody can get your account back for you. Save all three codes together, in two separate places.
Moderation
Kept clear of bots, spam and abuse
A site that asks nothing of you attracts the wrong people as readily as the right ones. So: reporting that does something, automatic brakes on anyone working down the roster, and a front door that turns the obvious away before it reaches you.
When you report somebody
- Report a person, a message or a picture, from wherever you are looking at it
- A reported picture is hidden from everybody until somebody has looked at it
- The evidence is copied when you file, so your complaint outlives the messages behind it
- You are told what was decided; the person acted against is told why, never by whom
Spam, bots and people selling things
- Three accounts reporting the same one for spam disables it automatically — no admin has to be awake
- Strikes count against the account, not the persona, so switching name sheds nothing
- An account can only be waiting on a handful of unanswered conversations, so a bot working down the roster runs out of reach in minutes
- Block ends a conversation on the spot, and takes you off their list too
Turned away at the door
- Nicknames are unique, so nobody can wear yours — Quiet Otter 42 cannot pass for quiet-otter-42
- Nor claim to run the place: support, security and bot are refused, and so are 5upp0rt and S-u-p-p-o-r-t
- Nothing presenting a child, or an interest in one — waived for nobody, staff included
- Nothing threatening or celebrating violence, or flying an extremist group's slogans
- Nothing selling anything — services, picture trades, a channel to join, a handle to message off-site
- Names, descriptions and room text all go past a model on our own hardware, which can add a refusal and never lift one
- Guessing an access code gets slower every time, with no site-wide lockout for an attacker to trip
None of this reads your conversations — the queue only ever holds what somebody reported.
